I started my organic spray tanning business almost 6 years ago. When I started, I wasn’t a chronic spray tanner, I was a special event spray tanner. I have always been a skincare fanatic and I have a product addiction. Yes, my bathroom looks like Sephora hosted a party and had a little too much to drink. ;) #beautyaddict
Over the years though, I have come to appreciate a few of the staples in the skincare routine I use on my body all thanks to my organic tanning lifestyle.
Here’s all the reasons why spray tanning has given me my best skin ever:
1) Consistent Exfoliation. The cardinal rule of spray tanning is exfoliation. As I like to say: “Alligator skin, Alligator tan.” There is nothing quite like a spray tan or sunless tan to show you the true condition of your skin. Most people do not exfoliate their body enough or properly. We tend to use fancy scrubs that smell nice and feel nice on the skin, but they don’t do a great job of removing dead skin. Did you know that the #1 way to increase hydration in your skin, is by exfoliating?! It’s true. If you’re like me and live on the dry Canadian prairies, this is your best tool to combat dry itchy skin. I have a weekly - to - every 2 weeks (depending on when my spray tan is scheduled), deep exfoliation routine using the one and only SunnaTan Exfoliating Mitt (the holy grail of exfoliating mitts). Tip: soak in the bathtub for about 10 minutes and then use this mitt. Watch it in action here. This mitt doesn’t scratch the skin unlike dry brushes. Some times dry brushing can cause micro scratches on the skin and then will show up as visible brown lines after your spray tan. #notcute
2) Using natural & organic hydrating body lotions & oils without chemicals or synthetics. Did you know that the majority of the body lotions sold at the drug store are filled with mineral oils, petroleum by-products and synthetics? All of the toxic ingredient issues aside, the biggest reason these lotions aren’t doing your skin a favor is because many of the ingredients in them that are designed to make your skin feel good upon application aren’t actually hydrating your skin. Shocker right?! It’s just a band-aid solution. Using SunnaTan Hydrate Me & Coconut Oil solely over the last 6 years means my skin is actually getting the hydration it needs. I now moisturize less often than I used to. With organic & natural ingredients like aloe, grapeseed oil, coconut oil, shea butter & jojoba oil, my skin is balanced & hydrated without feeling greasy.
3) There is NO need to get a UV tan. This one goes without saying in my world. It’s 2019. Nobody needs to be baking their skin in the sun. PERIOD. You can get an instant fabulous tan within minutes these days thanks to experts like me & my team! ;) The sun is drying & is said to be the #1 factor in pre-mature aging. Just say NO to UV Tanning & say YES to sunless!
4) Not showering or bathing daily. All the daily shower addicts are gasping right now.
Stop bathing people! You don’t need it! And, your skin will thank you for it. Just like hair stylists tell you to stop washing your hair so often, I am going to tell you to stop showering so often. Your skins natural oils is exactly what it needs. I shower 2-3 times per week and sponge bath when I need it - the ol’ armpit wash was a trick I learned from my Momma. ;)
When you do bathe, choose simple, natural & organic body washes & soaps without sodium lauryl sulfate, which is a cheap & toxic foaming agent that strips your skin of it’s natural body oils (among other things!)
